("Satyagraha in South Africa", விலை ரூ. 20.)

  1. Badri,
I had an oppertunity to talk to a South African Tamil last week while he was travelling back to SA from India after his vacation.
It seems that he travels every year to India. He was born and brought up in SA (he is around 75 and his grandfather was in the first to reach SA from his family about 180 yrs ago). Incidentally he held high positions in the Govt of SA as well as in the local tamil associations.
The interesting factor he told was about Gandhiji. Eventhough all indians tell great about him and his role in SA , the Tamils in SA do not praise Gandhi that much(even now). That is because gandhi used only Tamils as forerunner to fight against the authorities and made them to lose thier lives in score, eventhough there were lots of Gujaratis lived at that time in SA, It not that gujaratis participated in the struggle, but it was Gandhi who forced them to play the second line, putting the tamils in the front and made them as scape goats. He claimed that this can be verified by the fact on the number of deaths of Tamils and the Gujaratis
He was serious while telling this and he meant this. I could not believe it but It may be a point to find the fact,
